PGGM Business Unit Directors Media Kit

The business units are led by: the Chief Operations Officer Pension Management, the Chief Executive Officer Investment Management, and the Director of Vitality, Care and Welfare.

The directors hold explicit and full responsibility for executing their respective strategies. PGGM has given the business units greater autonomy to make their own decisions and to manage their own organisation.

On this webpage, you will find the biographies and visual materials of our Business Unit Directors.

Alexandra Phillippi, Chief Operations Officer Pension Management

"I was born in Amsterdam, where I lived for a short time before moving to Soest, where I spent most of my youth. After secondary school I studied Business Administration at the University of Groningen, followed by a post-doctorate EDP Auditing course at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

I have spent a large part of my professional life at ABN AMRO Bank; first as a trainee and later in a variety of roles within the organisation. One of the great advantages of holding many different positions is that it has given me broad experience across multiple fields—experience I still rely on every day. I have worked in audit (as an EDP Auditor), in risk management (Operational Risk, Compliance, Information Security), and in commercial roles (Account Manager Eastern Europe, Director of Product Management Retail, Director of Internet Banking and Contact Centres).

During the merger of ABN AMRO Bank and Fortis Bank, I served as the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). In recent years, I have mainly worked as Chief Operations Officer (COO), both in the Netherlands and for ABN AMRO’s international network.

In May 2018, I joined PGGM as Chief Operations Officer (COO).

I am married, have a daughter, and live in Almere. As a family, we enjoy sports and travel frequently.”

Anouk Op het Veld, Director of Care and Welfare

"As of 1 July 2025, I have started with great enthusiasm as Director of the Vitality, Care & Welfare Business Unit within PGGM. I am pleased to introduce myself.

My roots lie in Limburg, near Venlo, but I have now been living in the Randstad for over 30 years. I studied Public Administration and Macroeconomics and began my professional career at the Ministry of Finance, at the Directorate-General for the National Budget. After five years in public service, I became increasingly drawn to the corporate world and joined the consultancy firm Andersson Elffers Felix (AEF), where I worked with great pleasure for 16 years, 11 of which as partner/co-owner. AEF is a strategy consultancy focused on societal challenges, and I was responsible for the health and welfare sector. This meant that I carried out numerous assignments — from change programmes to major system reforms — for hospitals, elderly care organisations, youth services, mental health institutions and disability organisations, as well as major programmes for the Ministry of Health (VWS), the Healthcare Authority (NZa), municipalities and health insurers. I know the health and welfare sector well, and it is where my passion lies. While at AEF, I also completed an MBA in Change at Oxford University & HEC Paris. This opened my eyes to the complexity of major change processes and what is required to create real movement. It provided invaluable insight for working in the health and welfare sector.

After many years of consultancy in cure, care and prevention, I wanted to move to the more disruptive side of healthcare transformation — health technology. I transitioned to Philips — now a fully medtech company — as Director of Strategy for the Benelux market. There, I discovered the fascinating world of medical technology and digital health. Unfortunately, after 1.5 years, Philips entered the sleep apnea crisis, and as one of the few people in the company with connections to the Dutch government, I became deeply involved in managing this crisis in collaboration with the IGJ, VWS, NZa and ACM. It was quite an adventure, but not the innovation-driven path I had been seeking.

After three valuable years at Philips, I co-founded the GelijkGezond Foundation with two partners. Our mission: “to help people with a minimum income gain more healthy years of life.” I can speak about this with great enthusiasm, but it is quicker to visit www.gelijkgezond.nl. After the initial strategic years, we gradually entered the next phase as a start-up — the operational phase. That was the moment I transitioned from the core team to the Supervisory Board of GelijkGezond. I remain proudly involved, but now in a different role. And that was exactly when conversations started about my current, wonderful position as Director of Vitality, Care & Welfare.

In my free time, I enjoy baking cakes, acting, visiting the theatre frequently, and dining with friends. I live in Utrecht with my son Flip and my partner Ellen. In addition to my work at PGGM and my supervisory role at GelijkGezond, I also serve on the Supervisory Board of VVT organisation Omring, on the Supervisory Board of Stichting Else (a small health-related foundation), and I teach in the MBA Health programme at Erasmus University."

Geraldine Leegwater, Chief Executive Officer Investment Management

"After studying Economics and East European Studies at the University of Groningen, I began my career as a management trainee at ABN AMRO and started out in asset management. There, I gained extensive knowledge and experience in various rewarding roles, including analyst and portfolio manager.

In 2004, I made the move to ABN AMRO’s pension administration organisation, first as Head of Investments and later as Chair of the Executive Board of the pension fund. For a long period, I combined this with serving on the Board of Pension Fund ABP, where I also chaired the Investment Committee.

After this role, I aspired to a position that would bring me closer to the ‘work floor’. I found this in the role of Chief Investment Management at PGGM, where I also joined the Executive Committee. PGGM holds a leading position in the Netherlands when it comes to pensions and investments, and is also strongly committed to a healthy care and welfare sector. With my knowledge of the investment chain and broad experience in the pension domain, I am eager to contribute to this mission.

Alongside my role at PGGM, I am involved in the pension programmes at ESAA, affiliated with Erasmus University. More recently, I have also taken on a role as board member of DUFAS, the Dutch industry association for asset managers.

In my free time, I enjoy mountain biking with my husband, swimming with my daughter, running, and walking the dog. You can often find me in the woods of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.”
