Karin Lurvink among the Top 50 Women in Sustainable Finance 2025
The Top 50 Women in Sustainable Finance 2025 was launched in Utrecht on 30 September: a celebration of female leaders who make a visible and measurable difference to the sustainability transition of the financial sector. This year, Karin Lurvink, Head of Research at PGGM, has been included.
Women driving sustainable finance
The list, compiled annually by the network Women in Financial Services (WIFS) since 2021, highlights women whose work visibly advances sustainability in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Last year’s edition featured PGGM colleagues Geraldine Leegwater, Chief Executive Officer Investment Management, and Karin Bouwmeester, Investment Manager Private Equity, were featured in last year edition. Together, they reflect PGGM’s long-term commitment to sustainable finance and balanced leadership.
Turning ambition into measurable impact
Karin’s nomination stems from her leadership of the Impact Working Group, part of the Strategy 2030 Impact Goals Project. The group brings together financial institutions to develop practical guidance that helps the sector drive greater real-world impact. ‘We worked collaboratively to share best practices and make impact tangible,’ she explains. ‘It’s about moving from policy to practice, showing how sustainability can be embedded in every step of the investment process.’
Now, Karin continues this mission by leading the researching team that creates a 3D research ecosystem to bring outside knowledge in and share knowledge. The team also takes on 3D research questions, such as how to include sustainability transitions in the Economic and Financial Markets Monitor and how ‘improving companies’ can be identified and supported through investments.
Recognition and inspiration
For Karin, being included in the Top 50 is more than a personal milestone. ‘In times when sustainable finance is under pressure, it’s encouraging to highlight the people who keep driving change,’ she says. ‘It reminds us that progress happens when we win together, not just for ourselves.’
The continued recognition of PGGM colleagues on the Top 50 list underlines both the organisation’s expertise and its role in shaping a more sustainable, inclusive financial sector.
