The Senior Strategic Policy Advisor focuses on the sustainable investment strategy and is responsible for:
- Developing the strategic agenda and providing strategic advice on the sustainable investment policy, taking into account external perspectives. This includes advising on shaping the investment universe, positive-alignment targets, impact goals, ESG-risk management and focus themes. In doing so, a balance should be struck between the risk tolerance, the pension and sustainability ambition.
- Develop and execute an approach to monitor stewardship activities of the investment management organization.
- Developing an approach to fully integrate sustainability considerations into investment strategy, supporting the 3D - risk, return, and sustainability – strategy in the context of the total portfolio.
- Articulating strategic initiatives and prioritizing those initiatives based on research in recommendations to PFZW, management and other internal stakeholders.
- Collaborating in and leading multidisciplinary teams, with the purpose of creating policy advice in an iterative way with investment chain partners.
- Collaborating with the Research team to develop perspectives on market trends and sustainable investment developments impacting the success of the strategy.
Jouw afdeling binnen PGGM
PGGM manages the pensions of workers and retirees in the Healthcare and Welfare sector. The Asset Management unit is responsible for investing the pension assets and manages circa € 260 billion.
Strategic Policy Advice (‘SPA’), together with the Investment Strategy team, forms the Investment Policy Advice (‘IPA’) department headed by the Chief Policy Officer. The aim of this department is to advise PFZW on their investment policy in line with the 3D strategy, where return, risk and sustainability are taken into account in all decisions. Within IPA the Strategic Policy Advice team is responsible for advising on the sustainable investment policy and the total portfolio management mandate.
Strategic Policy Advice is a new team, with 10 colleagues having started June 1st of this year and with a mixture of specialisms. SPA will closely work together with Investment Strategy, but also with Total Portfolio Management, Mandate Management, Research and Countervailing Policy Advice.
Jouw achtergrond
We are looking for an experienced candidate who has in-depth knowledge of sustainable investment strategy, financial markets and various asset classes. You are able to work in a dynamic environment to help implement a pioneering strategy. You are proactive, take ownership and deliver results. When you draft advice you ensure clear communication and proper stakeholder management. At the end of the day you stand behind what you advice and are not afraid to voice your opinion. You are open and honest and value receiving and providing feedback.
Preferably, the candidate has:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in investments with specific experience in sustainability and investment strategy, and within a larger investment chain context
- You are intrinsically motivated to leverage your extensive investment experience to drive and pioneer innovative sustainable strategies
- An academic record with a Master’s degree preferably specializing in (quantitative) economics, (sustainable) finance, or econometrics preferably complemented with for example an MBA and/or CFA
- The analytical skills and investment judgement capabilities to make sound assessments of investment strategies and choices in a context of risk, return and sustainability
- Stakeholder management skills to influence strategic direction within PGGM and PFZW and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams
- A drive to – as a senior member of the team – support other colleagues in the Strategic Policy Advice team
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and visually, to convey messages with clarity and persuade others to adopt different points of view.
- Skilled in navigating sensitive conversations with internal and external stakeholders
- Fluency in Dutch and proficiency in English
