Thijs van Gelder, senior investment manager Private Real Estate, and his colleagues invest in real estate aiming for good returns at acceptable risks while making an impact. The investment in the realization of 340 care homes on-site De Trappenberg in Huizen meets all three dimensions. Thijs explains how.

Essange Reagents, acquired by Gilde Healthcare in '22, is ready to take the next step as international producer of hematology and immune reagents. An interesting investment, according to investment manager Ester Nafee: “They strive for a leading position in reagent development with the higher goal of helping patients.”
At the end of 2022, PGGM and DIF Capital each took a 25% stake in French water company Saur. Investment Manager Martijn Verwoest: 'With our investments, we want to ensure that Saur can play a key role in the global water transition: ensuring sufficient, safe and high quality water for everyone.'
In our collaboration with UBS Asset Management we invest in large, modern, efficient and sustainable cold storage facilities across the United States. This fits perfectly with PGGM’s focus on sustainable investment initiatives, according to Investment Manager Sebastiaan Blom from PGGM’s Private Real Estate department.

Since 2006 PGGM has been investing in balance sheet synthetic securitisations on behalf of PFZW, the Dutch pension fund for the care and healthcare sector. We call these ‘Credit Risk Sharing’ (“CRS”) transactions as this name better reflects their nature and purpose in our portfolio.

The PGGM private real estate team manages the PGGM Private Real Estate Fund (PPREF) and invests in non-listed real estate vehicles across the globe. PGGM Private Real Estate invests on behalf of its investors, Dutch occupational pension funds, of which the largest is the pension fund of the healthcare sector (PFZW).
As an asset manager for pension funds, we support our clients in the performance of their primary mandate: to provide for good and robust pensions for their participants.
